Well here it is, my first children’s picture book. I illustrated this book myself using watercolor. Each one is hand-painted by yours truly using a M. Graham & Co. Watercolor Set that uses HONEY as an ingredient!

Sneak peek at my watercolor art for an upcoming children's picture book about honey bees and wildflowers.
This children’s picture book is written and illustrated by me, Jonathan Adam Hargus. The medium is watercolor. And for those who are interested, I’m using M. Graham watercolors, made with HONEY! And Winsor & Newton, cold-pressed 7×10″ paper.

Purpose of this book

Teaching children that honey bees are something to fascinate about rather than fear is crucial. Also, to show them that there is no such thing as a ‘weed,’ but that every flower is food for a pollinator.

My hope is that this will create a foundation of conservancy, respect, and appreciation for what we have.

I’ve created links to the supplies mentioned below the image above. You can find the specific M. Graham Watercolor Paints/’Desert Southwest’, that I used, M. Graham & Co. Watercolor Set here. Additionally, Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolor Paper Block, Cold Pressed 140lb.

As a beekeeper, I really like the fact that M. Graham uses honey in their watercolor paints. The paint is really smooth and doesn’t dry out because honey absorbs moisture from the air.

Plus, these are professional grade paints, without being the most expensive out there. They’re my favorite!
